UTRA
http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Dean_of_the_College/utra/
The intent of the UTRA is to support the collaboration of the particular faculty member and student who apply for the grant, rather than to provide a means of funding a project. The student position may be held only by the original applicant.
Odyssey
http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Dean_of_the_College/utra/prg_odyssey.html
Odyssey is the term for collaborative work with a faculty member on course development and revision in any field; an Odyssey may also include an undergraduate teaching assistantship. (Projects that are designed to include new or more extensive material on the diverse populations in the United States historically excluded from the curriculum will be exempted from department cost sharing.)

Currently some of the collaborative research in the biomedical sciences are designated Hughes Fellowships. While all Hughes Fellowships sponsor biomedical research, interested biomedical students may also do UTRAs. Hughes proposals use the UTRA application form and procedures. Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Eligible students include African-American, Latino, Native American, or others with a demonstrated commitment to the goals of the program and to eradicating racial disparities in higher education. Eligible sophomores who are currently enrolled in or interested in designated disciplines at Brown University may be eligible to apply to become Mellon undergraduate fellows. The program aims to reduce over time the serious underrepresentation on the faculties of individuals from certain minority groups, as well as to address the attendant educational consequences of these disparities.
Summer Research Opportunities in the Social Sciences for Under-Represented Students
June 4 – Aug 10, 2007 at the University of North Texas
This is a program where students learn and apply anthropological social science research methods, for social science undergraduates around their third year of study (junior status), who are members of groups traditionally under-represented in colleges, including ethnic minority students and "first generation" college students (for whom neither parent graduated from college). For the flyer and more information, see: http://www.brown.edu/Student_Services/TWC/NSFProgramFlyer2007.pdf
