"Re-Made in America" Photo Competition

Spanning the first two weeks of AAHM, the photo competition will ask students to interpret the Month's theme, "Re-Made in America." Students will submit their photos online and then be reviewed by a panel of judges. The winner will be announced at the Closing Convocation.  http://facebook.com/brownaahm

Crane Folding in the Ratty

Fold 1,000 cranes for peace with members of JCA and AAHM. Cranes will be sent to the Hiroshima Children’s Peace Project.

Opening Convocation - Kelly Zen Yie Tsai

For Opening Convocation, the AAHM Steering Committee is bringing Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai, a Chicago-born, Brooklyn-based Chinese Taiwanese American spoken word artist. Her award-winning blend of spoken word poetry passionately ties the personal with the political, local and global. This event will open with student performances by WORD and Archipelaga and be followed by a reception in the Third World Center

AASA Reunion Weekend

The Asian American Students Association is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. To commemorate this, the AAHM Steering Committee, AASA, PAC, and Alumni Relations will be partnering with one another to bring alumni back to campus for a weekend series of events including an alumni panel, career workshop, and alumni dinner.

The "What is Asian" Panel will bring together students from a variety of backgrounds to explore the complexity of what it means to be "Asian" in America and abroad. The intersections of identity we plan to explore are nationality - Asian students from Europe, Africa, and Latin America - gender, sexuality, and socioeconomic status.

In partnership with the MPCs and MPC Friends, the AAHM steering committee will hold an intergenerational conversation about what it means to be first, second, or third generation in America. We would like to explore questions like "How does generation affect coming to college?" or "How does generation affect culture within the family?"

Featured Keynote Speaker: Ninotchka Rosca

Ninotchka Rosca is an outstanding contemporary writer, feminist, and internationally-known activist for human rights. She serves on the board of the Survivors Committee, a network of former political prisoners and human rights activists. She has also been in leadership positions with Amnesty International and the PEN American Center. Rosca has participated in numerous world forums and conferences for human rights.

Theater for Social Change: Workshop & Performance

Write, stage and perform a theater piece on social issues that affect your lives. Work with developing a street theater piece with Prof. Shayoni Mitra, TSDA.  Perform this piece that the AAHM closing convocation that night. No prior experience needed.
