Meet Suzan Harjo (Cheyenne & Hodulgee Muscogee), President of the Morningstar Institute, activist, writer, curator. Ms. Harjo has been an advocate for Native issues for the past four decades, working to promote Native nations, arts, culture and languages. She also served on President Obama’s Native American Policy Committee during his presidential campaign.

The Recognition of Indigenous Identity [in Latin America]

“What is the relationship of indigenous ethnic identity to current realities in North and South America?” At Brown during 2009-2010, four distinguished lecturers will consider, from a variety of angles, the potential for political and cultural relationships among indigenous peoples of the Americas.”
Greg Urban is the Arthur Hobson Quinn Professor of Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Urban is a noted scholar in areas of cultural and linguistic anthropology; culture theory; discourse; corporations and culture; South American Indians; and metaculture.
