Student Coordinators
As Coordinators for WiSE, students take on leadership roles, are enthusiastic, motivated and are excited about working with faculty as well as students. These positions require students to be able to engage with and provide information from the Dean's Office to student volunteers. There is also the need to promote cooperation between Coordinator Groups as well as between DUGs/other student groups.

Elaine Jessica Tamargo - Class of 2011 - Hometown: Carson, CA - Concentration: Education Studies
What's an Education concentrator doing in WiSE? Just goes to show you that you don't have to be "strictly science" to show your love for the art, the wonder that is this discipline that encompasses such a large part of our lives. My favorite way to learn about science is through hands-on experiments to witness first-hand how science affects our everyday lives, and I take great joy in sharing my experiences and knowledge with others as a woman interested in the sciences, especially with younger students. This year I hope to bring this love of the sciences into our community, both on campus and in Providence.

Wei-Lin Tan - Class of 2012
I'm a sophomore concentrating in Materials Chemistry and Geology, from the 'Little Red Dot' on the map, Singapore!
I have a rather eclectic range of interests beyond my concentration, from Astrobiology to Philosophy to Nitpicking Bad Movie-Science. My passion hence for Big Picture (aka inter-disciplinary) Science stems from this melting pot of ideas, where I believe that solutions crystallize from not one, but all, the elements that Nature has as yet revealed to us. On an out-of-science note, my hobbies include a pinch of digital art, sprinklings of karaoke and and generous helpings of Asian dramas.

Deidrya Jackson - Class of 2010
Hello, all! I am a senior Premedicine and Community Health concentrator hailing from the "oh-so-wonderful" state of Connecticut and the "always sunny" island of Jamaica! I have a passion for biomedicine that is only matched by my love of public health. After graduation, I hope to combine my two passions into a successful career as either a pediatric neurologist, neonatologist, or pediatrician! Always the science/medicine lover, my hobbies include: watching "Mythbusters" on the Discovery Channel, watching Medical Mystery and Surgery shows on TLC, as well as playing simulation surgery games online. Outside of science, I love baking (which requires chemical reactions!) and reading. I look forward to a successful and fun year as a student coordinator.

The coordinator positions are largely self-driven in that being leaders of WiSE, the students are responsible for planning and following through on their activities (see descriptions below) and also work with and help out with general program and individual coordinator events. The WiSE coordinators meet as a group with Dean Targan and Jodie Gill, Science Program Coordinator for WiSE, once a week to update each other on their individual activities and brainstorm ideas for future WiSE events and plans.
