Job Description:
Writing Center Associates hold hour-long, one-on-one conferences on writing with any member of the Brown community who wishes to discuss his or her written work. Visitors to the Center may be undergraduates, graduates, visiting scholars, faculty or staff. Associates must be ready to discuss strategies for writing in a variety of discursive modes, including papers for humanities and science-related academic courses; dissertation, masters and senior thesis chapters; personal essays for job, grad school, law school or med school applications; creative writing; articles for publication; project, thesis or grant proposals, and course syllabi. Associates write a summary and assessment of each conference; they also collaborate in establishing and maintaining the Center's objectives and procedures, and conduct outreach workshops as the need arises.

Job Requirements:
Associates should be graduate students who are experienced writers with substantial teaching background, either one-on-one or in a class. Experience in the teaching of writing (in any academic discipline) preferred. Courses in composition theory and practice and/or in subject area teaching highly desirable. Special training or experience in areas such as EFL, dyslexia, publishing, science or technical writing, also highly desirable. Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative setting essential. Willingness to participate in ongoing staff development sessions, assist in the training of new Center Associates, adhere to the Center's pedagogy, procedures and policies, and contribute to Writing Center publications required.
