ACLU Minutes November 10, 2004
Michael Prentice, Secretary

-Tristan's editorial was printed in the BDH. Apparently they just took his draft, so that was not his final version.

-Next Thursday and Friday we will have a table in the P.O. to hand out pamphlets regarding the Patriot Act. We will also pass out pins and bookmarks and other stuff Mike received from RICLU.
-We will try to get people to sign up as members as well because we now have forms to fill out.

-Regarding memberships, Mike talked to Amy Myrick at the RICLU who said at minimum the memberships were $5, but that the ACLU has to pay for them if they're that low. $20 is the normal rate, and $15 seems to be the price at cost for a membership.
-Included in the memberships are: ACLU newsletter, RICLU newsletter and email updates
-Since there is not really much incentive for students to buy a membership, we entertained the idea of T-shirt/membership combos so more people would be interested and it would be like a walking advertisement as well. We need to think of a t-shirt idea at some point.

-Chris will talk to Public Safety about having a forum on Brown Students' rights. This would be good to do soon, since all the news about the room searches.

-Chelsea (new attendee) brought up the idea of having student perspectives about the patriot act.

-Film Festival-will be the second week in February next semester to give time for advertising and getting the word out. No one had a calendar but upon looking at one, the dates will be Feb. 6th-10th (a Sunday thru a Thursday) as planned in November.
-Amy Myrick also gave Mike a list of movies related to ACLU/ACLU issues so we may add some new ones, like "The People vs. Larry Flynt"

-Mike will contact UCS about a campus resolution against the Patriot Act, and a Student Bill of Rights.

-Mike also talked to Provost Zimmer, who brought the Geoffrey Stone lecture together, and offered the ACLU's help if there are any future civil liberties lectures.
