Slavery in the 21st Century: A lecture and discussion with author, activist and former Sri Lankana slave Beatrice Fernando, and Katherine Y.Chon ’02, Cofounder and codirector of the Polaris Project. Mon 17 April. 7:30pm. Smith Buonanno 106. Free and open to the public. Sponsored by the University Steering Committee on Slavery and Justice, local AI group 49, and the American Anti-Slavery Group.

BEAN's Earth Day on Lincoln Field. 19 Wed April from 11am to 4pm. During ADOCH. Actions about Bhopal, India and Chevron and Ecuador's Amazon communities.

JAMNESTY featuring performances by Ben Miller, Samuel James, Henry Freedland, Charlie Hunter and Arvid Tomayko-Peters. Proceeds will benefit Amnesty's campaign against human trafficking. Come rock out for a great cause in the Hourglass from 8-11pm.

"Bakazi: Women of Africa" Dinner and Performance followed by Afterparty by the African Students Association. Sat April 15th from 7:30 to 10:30pm in Andrews Dining Hall. Performances by Sugarcane, Shades of Brown, Divine Rhythm. Admission is $2 until food runs out. Spare Change Drive for humanitarian relief in Darfur and information about the crisis in Darfur. Ko Bo Kyi's Speaking Tour came to Brown! Mon 13 March. 7:30pm. MacMillan 117. Cosponsored by the Providence AI Group 49. Ko Bo Kyi was imprisoned for over seven years in Burma for his political beliefs and activities. Longer Biography. Pictures/video hopefully coming soon.

We tabled in the PO for Krishna Pahadi's release. He came to speak at Brown last November ( info here) then was arrested for peaceful protest in a January crackdown. Thurs. 9 March. We got 165 names and addresses to a Nepali official urging his immediate release. Three of the tablers:

Tabling in the PO Friday 10 February from 11-2pm. We got over 150 letters. Some to President Bush about legal rights of detainees in Guantanamo Bay and some to US Congresspeople about extraordinary rendition. A 'connecting the dots' animation.
