Maintenance

Our houses are always falling apart and its the job of Maintenance to keep it fixed. This should definitely be at least a few people per house, and at least one of them should know how to use a wrench and/or the phonebook.

-It's a lot more difficult than it sounds, mostly because it's hard to find the right supplies
-Ask questions! People who have been living in the house for a long time can provide a plethora of information.
-Get to know the maintenance room well so you can find stuff
-Put things back where you found them!

Our boiler had problems the a few weeks ago and the repair guy told me that the boiler we have is top notch, it just has to be maintenanced once or twice a year. If we don't do this the life of the unit will be cut in half or more. Maintenance is basically taking note that condensation or water leakage occurs, causing rust which inhibits the burners from working. at the bottom of the boiler there are 14 pipes that need to be cleaned with a wire brush. turn boiler off and take pipes off, taking note of how they came off as to be albe to put them back on. clean with brush and go about your business. seem like it would be a good idea to have a pro come out every couple years to make sure everything else is up to specs. If this isn't done it he said it was like not changing the oil in your car. puts added stress on unit and causes it to break down quicker.
