"My experience at Brown so far has been characterized by diverse classes and extracurricular activities. As a Computer Science concentrator, I find myself taking classes on neuroscience, ethics, and German. I have been a tutor in Mandarin, and interned in a software company in the summer of my freshman year. I have also been glad to share my experiences in China with friends at Brown who are curious about my home country. The help I received from BRIO Scholarship has been a motive for me to expand the education opportunities of others, such as volunteering for a group that helps to fund education for many elementary school students in poverty-stricken areas in rural China."

"I came to Brown in 1997 from rural Jamaica and was amazed by the vast number of opportunities available to me. I worked in a laser research lab, took courses ranging from 'Religion in Ancient Greece' to 'Advanced Quantum Mechanics', played cricket, taught computer courses, and, above all, made diverse friendships.
Looking back, I am convinced that without my unique experiences at Brown, I would not be at Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship, or have so many unforgettable memories of life as a college student.
I am eternally grateful to BRIO's contribution and look forward to having the pleasure of one day giving back to a fund that has given so much to me." |
