Article I Meetings
§1 D’Oyly Carte Meetings
- The D’Oyly Carte shall meet every two weeks when school is in session.
- All D’Oyly Carte meetings shall be run according to Robert’s Rules of Order, except where superseded by these by-laws.
- All D’Oyly Carte meetings shall include the reading of minutes from the previous meeting for approval by the D’Oyly Carte.
- All D’Oyly Carte meetings shall include the formation of a committee or position whose duties are purely nominal and should not be carried out.
- All D’Oyly Carte meetings shall conclude with the sentencing of one or more persons to death.
- D’Oyly Carte meetings shall be open to all, but may be closed at any time by a vote of the D’Oyly Carte.
- While a production is underway, Giblert & Sullivan shall attend all D’Oyly Carte meetings unless directed otherwise.
- No subsection of the D’Oyly Carte shall meet for any BUGS-related purpose without the approval of the entire D’Oyly Carte.
§2 BUGS Meetings
- BUGS shall meet once a month when school is in session.
- BUGS meetings shall occur during or subsequent to D’Oyly Carte meetings.
§3 Aesthetes’ Meetings
- While a production is underway, the Aesthetes shall meet every week.
Article II Elections and Appointments
§1 Election Procedures
- Elections shall be held at the penultimate meeting of each semester.
- Elections shall be open to all BUGS members, and shall be limited to those present.
- Elections shall be held in the following order: Lord Chancellor, Ward in Chancery, First Lord of the Admiralty, Grand Inquisitor, Queen of the Fairies, Pirate King, Sorceror, Mistress of the Doehounds.
- Elections shall be held by secret ballot.
- Election results shall be tabulated by the outgoing Grand Inquisitor.
- All offices of the D’Oyly Carte shall be elected each semester, with the exception of those enumerated in Article II §1-g and 1-h.
- The Lord Chancellor and Ward in Chancery shall be elected yearly in the Spring semester,
- The First Lord of the Admiralty shall be elected yearly in the Fall semester.
§2 Appointments
- Giblert shall be appointed unanimously by the D’Oyly Carte, pursuant to Article II §10 of the Constitution.
- Applications shall be accepted by the D’Oyly Carte in the final month of each semester.
- Giblert shall be appointed immediately prior to elections.
- Should no acceptable applications be submitted, the Lord Chancellor shall fill the role of Giblert. See Article IV §2
- Sullivan shall be appointed unanimously by Giblert and the D’Oyly Carte, pursuant to Article II §10 of the Constitution.
- Sullivan shall be appointed at the final meeting of each semester.
- Every member of the D’Oyly Carte except the Lord Chancellor and Ward in Chancery shall be empowered to appoint an assistant.
- Every Aesthete shall be empowered to appoint an assistant or assistants.
Article III Dismissal
§1 Impeachment
- Members of the D’Oyly Carte may be impeached by a 4/5 vote of the D’Oyly Carte.
- Pursuant to Article II §2 of the Constitution, the Ward in Chancery shall replace any officer of the D’Oyly Carte who is impeached, excepting only him- or herself.
§2 Dismissal of Aesthetes
- Giblert or Sullivan may be dismissed by a 4/5 vote of the D’Oyly Carte.
- Giblert may dismiss any aesthete, with the exception of him- or herself and Sullivan, at his/her discretion, after finding a replacement.
§3 Dismissal of cast and orchestra members
- Cast members may be dismissed by Giblert & Sullivan when in violation of the Constitution, these by-laws, or any local, state, or federal laws, including but not limited to those relating to sexual harassment and discrimination.
- Cast members may be dismissed by Giblert & Sullivan for violations of the attendance policy.
- Cast members may be dismissed by Giblert and Sullivan with the approval of a majority of the D’Oyly Carte.
- Orchestra members may be dismissed by Sullivan for any of the reasons enumerated in Article II §3.
Article IV Serving in two capacities
§1 Capacities that do not clash
- Any member of the D’Oyly Carte, any Aesthete, and any cast or orchestra member may be a Flower of Progress.
- Any orchestra member may be an Aesthete. Any Aesthete except Giblert & Sullivan may be an orchestra member.
- Any member of the D’Oyly Carte may be an Aesthete. Any Aesthete except Giblert & Sullivan may be a member of the D’Oyly Carte.
- Any member of the D’Oyly Carte may be a member of the cast or orchestra.
§2 Capacities that clash
- Those members of the D’Oyly Carte who are members of the cast or orchestra shall recuse themselves from any votes pertaining to the performance.
- Neither Giblert nor Sullivan shall be a member of the D’Oyly Carte.
- No member of the cast shall be an Aesthete.
- Should the Lord Chancellor be required to fill the role of Giblert, the Ward in Chancery shall take his or her place on the D’Oyly Carte.
Article V Other Stuff
- All powers not specifically delegated are reserved to the D’Oyly Carte.
- No member of BUGS may represent BUGS without the approval, by majority vote, of the D’Oyly Carte.
- These by-laws may be suspended by a 4/5 vote of the D’Oyly Carte.
