Amira Bellydance

Description: Raqs sharqi, better known as belly dance in the Western World, is the term for a dance style originating in the Middle East and other Arab-influenced areas. It includes an array of movements and music originating from various regions and cultures, including Spanish gypsies, North African tribes, and Indian dancers. At present, belly dancing has expanded worldwide and has greatly influenced dance styles of the Western world. It is our mission to bring belly dance to the Brown community.

Time Commitment: We generally practice three times a week for two hours each time. Sometimes less, sometimes more, depending on upcoming shows and how much choreography we need to get through.

How To Get Involved: Auditions are generally held on the second weekend of the semester. Look for flyers, tableslips, and posters for auditions.

Contacts: Shira Adler, Afshan Ajmiri and Anna Chacon
