| overview
As part of the Brown community you have access to a variety of dance possibilities. You can take courses and workshops, perform, and choreograph through the department of Theater, Speech and Dance (TSDA), student groups, and off-campus studios. Annually we have a Fall Dance Concert choreographed and produced entirely by students, Parent’s Weekend Dance Concert and Spring Dance Concert run by faculty, as well as a great number of shows put on by individual student dance groups. Brown’s dance program focuses mainly on contemporary dance. There are three levels of modern dance, a Mande (African) dance class, and Dance Styles which introduces a different style every spring. The Theatre, Speach and Dance department also offers courses in composition, choreography and dance history. In addition to the curricular program, Brown has around twenty student groups, ranging in styles from modern dance to tap, breakdancing, swing, step, and many more.
