The Brown Cricket Club (BCC) shall exist to offer members of the Brown community opportunities to learn and play the game of cricket. There shall be one or more cricket teams depending on the number of members enrolled. Members will practice and play against each other on a regular basis. Beginners will be trained by senior members. The skilled ones will form the Brown Cricket Team, and they will play matches with other colllege teams and clubs in New England area. Trips will be organized to play cricket matches beyond this area if opportunities arise.
II. Membership
Eligibility to the BCC is open to all full-time undergraduate members of the Brown Community and does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, religion, handicap, status as a veteran, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin. Majority membership consists of full-tiime undergraduate Brown students. The BCC is also open to graduate students, faculty members and administrative staff.
III. Oficers and Leadership
There shall be five officers for the BCC.
The President shall be responsible for organising
and conducting meetings of officers and members, communicating with other
colleges and cricket clubs, and the general supervision of the officers.
The Vice President shall be responsible for
the communicatons within the Brown Community and outside. Ordering and
keeping track of the inventory of euipment will be the job of both the
president and the vice president, but no equipment shall be purchased without
the knowledge of the other officers.
The Treasurer shall maintain the finances
of the group and shall be responsible for communicating with the Undergraduate
Financing Board regarding group expenditures.
The Public Relations Officer shall be responsible
for reserving fields from the Athletic Center, reserving rooms for meetings
and functions, and initiating fund raising events.
The Team Captain shall be responsible for
activities of the BCC team which will include communicating with and organising
matches both within the club and outside, and maintaining team spirit and
dedication of the members of the team.
IV. Elections
The President, Vice President, Treasurer and the
Public Relations Officer shall be elected during the latter part of the
second semester of each academic year. To be elected, a candidate must
receive a majority of votes cast. If no candidate receives a majority
on the first ballot, run-offs shall be conducted between the two toppers.
There shall be no limit on the number of terms an officer may fill. Whereas
the whole club may participate in these elections, the Team Captain shall
be chosen by the members of the team (or teams) in the early part of the
second semester of each academic year. To be elected, a candidate must
have played on the team for at least a semester. The format of this election
will be identical to that described above.
V. Finances
All expenses of the BCC shall be paid through the Office of Student Activities, and all funds collected by the group from any source shall be deposited with the Office of Student Activities. The BCC agrees to follow all regulations regarding financial transactions as set forth by the Office of Student Activities.
VI. Advisor
The BCC shall have an official advisor.
VII. Amendment Procedure
An amendment shall be brought before the group by
a majority vote. The president shall notify all current members of the
group that an amendment to the group's constitution is to be considered
at the meeting following it's announcement to the group. To be accepted,
an amendment must gain support from two-thirds (2/3) of the members.
Once an amendment has been accepted by the BCC,
it shall be given to the UCS Coordinator of Student Activities at least
two(2) full days before the next regularly scheduled full council meeting.
Upon receipt of a simple majority from the UCS, the amendment shall be
considered a formal part of the BCC's constitution.
