About the Brown Cycling Team

The Brown University Cycling Team is a co-educational, club-level sports team comprising of Brown students, both undergraduate, graduate, and medical, and supplemented by members of the Brown faculty and Providence community (although only students can actually race). Our team is drawn from concentrators in many departments and riders of many skill levels, from aspiring professionals to those who have never raced. Whatever your cycling goals are, we will all support you, and you will probably find other members with similar goals to ride and train with.

One of the major benefits of cycling versus other club sports at Brown is that you and you alone are in charge of your training schedule. Besides our short weekly team meeting, there are no mandatory full-team practices or other events that you are required to attend. If you take only morning classes and can only ride in the afternoons, you can do that. If you only have time to ride a couple times a week, you can do that too. That being said, you'll probably quickly find other racers with similar schedules to train with. College racing has five different categories, from A, with many pros in the field, to Intro, with people who have never raced before, so no matter what your fitness, skill, or time commitment, there is a place for you on this team.

Despite the individualistic and segmented nature of college training and racing, we are still absolutely a team. We eat together, ride together, have social events together, some of us live together, and during the spring racing season, we drive up and down the East Coast together and sleep in Motel 6 beds together. You may find some of your closest friends, best stories, and most thrilling experiences on the Brown Cycling Team.
