Roster

Elections for officers for the 2009-2010 season have not yet taken place. Officers will be posted here once they do.

An important note to aspiring women racers: you may have noticed that there are no women currently on our roster. However, we are a coeducational team with a long history of supporting female racers. Two of our female riders have competed in nationals in the past few years, and one of them was named national champion. The entirety of our women's team graduated last spring, but if you would like a female mentor, many of our alumni have graciously agreed to fill this role over email.

Graham Anderson '10 is a history and urban studies concentrator from Colorado Springs, CO. He races in A (USCF Cat 3). He's been racing since March 2007. Graham discovered bike racing at Brown, building upon doing mountain biking casually as long as he can remember. He went from Intro to C's his freshman year, raced B's his sophomore year, and hung in the A field this year before breaking his hand in a freak accident. He aims to be Cat 1 on the road by the end of 2009, and wear the ECCC yellow jersey next year. He rides a 2008 BMC Roadracer SL01.

CC Chiang '10.5 is an economics and international relations concentrator from Singapore. CC began racing his sophomore year at Brown. Having spent most of spring 2009 in Intros and Ds, CC hopes to move on to Cs in his second and last season. 2 years in the Singapore army, and the looming fear of hereditary spinocerebellar atrophy means CC is in a hurry to start working ASAP, as wonderful as college racing has been. Though he may not know it, the whole Brown team -- and indeed many other teams in the ECCC -- thinks that CC is the man. If the going ever gets tough and you start questioning why you want to race a bike, talk to CC and he'll calm you down.

Joey Glaser-Reich '11 is an English concentrator from North Carolina. He started as a broken cross-country runner/addict looking for a second shot at distance running and ended up falling in love with cycling as a freshman. Joey is known on the team for his inhuman discipline in following a highly scientific training plan. He is a huge diesel engine of a rider, but also understands the importance of good tactical awareness. Joey hopes to be a Cat 3 soon and a pivotal player in next year's A squad, and proves to have the engine and discipline to be the all-around workhorse of that group. Brown's cyclists can credit Joey and his organizational efforts for having a roof over their head, a ride to the race, and a jersey on their backs every weekend. Joey also enjoys kayaking, swimming, reading, writing, and hanging out with friends. Joey rides a Trek.

Josh Parker '12 is an Applied Math - Economics concentrator from New York City. Josh began the spring in the Intro category at Rutgers, where he got third in the time trial, second in the criterium, and first in the circuit race -- good for a first place overall finish for the weekend. He moved all the way to C by the end of the season, getting several top ten finishes in the process. He hopes to be contending in B by the end of this year and moving up to the A category either at that point or at the beginning of his junior year. His academic interests include Economics, Math, Physics, Political Science and Contemporary US History, among others. His favorite activities when not on the bike are relaxing with friends, eating, fishing, road trips and listening to music. Josh is a Meiklejohn advisor.

Chris Cohen '12 is an urban studies concentrator from Atlanta. He's been riding a road bike for many years, but didn't discover racing until he got to Brown. He is six feet tall and under 140 pounds, which causes him to enjoy flying up punishing climbs that most cyclists fear. Even when the rest of the team is unhappy and stressed, Chris is able to shrug and laugh, which makes him a much-needed source of sanity when bad weather, crashes, and bonks occur at inopportune times during racing season. Chris was the sole rider on the 2009 spring break training trip to make it to the top of Apple Orchard Mountain during a horrendous ice storm for no other reason than that he likes climbing. Off the bike, he enjoys photography and being the best-dressed person at every race weekend. He rides a Specialized Allez.

Ed Rice '12 is a computational biology concentrator from Virginia. Ed began racing during his sophomore year of high school as a USCF Junior, during which he upgraded to Cat 4. Last season, Ed planned and hosted the team's first annual Spring Training Camp in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, and hopes to plan multiple training trips this year. He thoroughly enjoys spending time studying maps and creating training routes, so if you ever want to talk to someone about routes, he's your man. He hopes to become a better climber and get a couple top ten finishes this year. Besides cycling, Ed enjoys singing in the Brown Chorus, playing guitar, eating, cooking vegetarian meals, and doing his best to behave, eat, and drink in as ridiculously European a fashion as he can, despite the fact that he was born and raised in rural Virginia by American parents. Ed rides an Orbea Volata, which we wants you to know is Spanish for "flow".

Radu Jianu PhD '11 is a computer science student from Romania. Bikes have been his only sports love, going back about 10 years. He started racing collegiate in 2006 as a C, moved to B in the mean time, and is hoping to race A's before graduating. His training philosophy is lots of volume and little intensity but admits it is probably not the best way to do it. Consequently, he likes long, hilly races and used to hate short, technical criteriums. Recently however, he learned that crits are nothing to be afraid of and even got some good results in this discipline. Radu is well known on the team for an aggressive attacking style. Next year's A squad is certainly going to spend a lot of time in blocking mode as Radu braves it in breakaways up the road. He takes pride in having maybe the best crash record in the history of Brown Cycling: none in almost four busy ECCC seasons, or any other USCF race. He hopes to keep it this way. Radu currently resides in Boston and rides a Ridley Excalibur.
