"Contemporary music is not the music of the future nor the music of the past but simply: music present with us: this moment. Now. This Now Moment."     - John Cage

Music is sound organized in time. Working from this basic definition, Brown New Music provides a forum for members of the community to discuss, confront, and experiment with terrifying, exciting, challenging problems and opportunities - absences and presences - in the unstable world of contemporary sound-related art. BNM organizes guest lectures, ensembles-in-residence, composers' forums, and at least one uproarious new music concert extravaganza per semester, all in hopes of enriching and challenging the community, stimulating debate, and allowing composers and performers an outlet for expression.
