Community Outreach

The BOP Community Outreach Program

BOP is devoted to bringing opera and classical vocal music not only to Brown University, but to the Providence community as well.  Past events have included performances for underprivileged public school students at COPAfest ’05 and for senior citizens at the Tockwotten Nursing Home.  This year, outreach projects include an English-language adaptation of The Magic Flute for children at the Providence Athenaeum, and further involvement in Providence public schools and retirement communities.  BOP is also committed to establishing relationships with other opera groups in southern New England.  By fostering such collaboration, we hope to bring this enduring and accessible art form to a wider audience.

If you are interested in having BOP perform at your school or retirement home, or if you are part of another opera organization look to establish a connection with BOP, please email Hannah Lewis at

Tockwotton Nursing Home

Tockwotten, located off of Wickendon St. near Brown's campus, is a Nursing Home that cares for elderly with a wide-range of ability and disability. We put together a 45-minute program of vocal and piano music that catered to an older sensibility. Pieces included Faure's "Lydia", Schumann's "Widmung" and selections from Carneval, Loewe's "On the Street Where You Live," and Mozart's "L'ho perduta" from The Marriage of Figaro.
