Are you interested in learning more about probability, hypothesis testing and statistics? If your answer is yes, then "Statistical Inference" is the course for you. It is an advanced course, mainly for Applied Math concentrators, which deals with all the above. Math 10 is the only prerequisite.
The class thought pretty highly of Professor Freiberger. Most agreed he was very nice and clear in his explanantions of the material. Students noted his predictable, consistent efficiency in moving through the toopics. Unfortunately, this meant he sometimes dwelled on easy material as long as he spent on more difficult concepts. His clear, if monotone, voice and organized presentation made the lectures easy to follow.
There were two midterms (open-note), one final and one problem set every week. Some thought that the exams were excessively long, but the homework sets were considered pretty easy. Students spent an average of three to five hours per week and sometimes more, especially before the exams.
Most of the class appeared more or less apathetic towards this course. Few had any strong opinons at all (making this a difficult review to write). It's a math course, and one could say it's hard to get really excited about any math course.
If you are very motivated by the subject, go ahead and take the course. You'll probably learn some stuff, but you may not care too much by the end of the semester.
