'Archaeology of Mesopotamia' is a survey of the archaeological, political, social and artistic history of Mesopotamia. Students explored the fact and finds of the archaeological sites of Mesopotamia and learned about the dominant cultures of the region. There were no formal requisites for the course, but some background in archaeology could be useful.
Professor Joukowsky received wonderful reviews from her students. She was a phenomenal lecturer and she brought the material down to the level of her students' understanding and was always enthusiastic about the material. Respondents also pointed out that the professor held very effective review sessions before exams and that she was eager to help whenever help was needed. As one student put it, Professor Joukowsky was 'one of the best professors at Brown.'
The course load consisted of one 2-page paper, one 10-15 page site abstract project, 2 midterms and one take-home final exam. Students put in a moderate amount of time into the class, averaging 4-5 hours per week. But some students stated that they spent as much as 20-30 hours studying just before exams. Reading period was observed.
Students were very glad to have taken this class because they learned a tremendous amount about Mesopotamia and, perhaps more significantly, Professor Joukowsky was such an awesome professor. A vast majority of the respondents hailed this class as 'the one' class that all Brunonians should take before graduating. Take it!
