'Operations Research: Probabilistic Models' focuses on conveying the necessary formulas and, as importantly, derivations of these formulas in the context of Operations research. The prerequisites for this course include AM 165, MA 52 or 54. However, respondents also suggested that prior exposure to discrete Mathematics might be helpful.
Professor Geman generally received great reviews. Students thought he was a funny lecturer who was clear and enthusiastic at the same time. They further praised his high level of organization and articulation which aided their ability to learn in the course. Many students also felt that Professor Geman had a genuine interest in their level of understanding.
The courseload consisted of about eight homework assignments, with three concerning programming. There was one midterm and a final exam. Respondents devoted a fair amount of time and effort to this course, spending approximately four to five hours outside of class. However, many were motivated by the material itself as well as by an engaging Professor, and felt that taking the class was certainly worthwhile.
AM120 is thus a moderately difficult but fun course. It is taught by a great Professor who makes it that much better. Interesting material taught by a great professor is too good a deal to pass up. Take it.
