Students in 'Race, Culture, and Ethnic Politics' gain a broader understanding of race relations in the U.S. The only requirement for taking this class is an interest in the subject, which includes learning about the societal effects of race and ethnicity, and understanding the current issues facing minorities in this country.

Reviewers described Professor Fruzzetti as a terrific instructor. She was funny and very enthusiastic about the material covered, although sometimes very strongly opinionated. She was able to create a comfortable atmosphere with lots of opportunities to discuss some serious and important topics concerning race and ethnicity.

The coursework included weekly readings, although these were longer and more frequent towards the beginning of the semester; many students commented that there was a bit of a lull during the middle of the course. There was also a twenty-page research paper at the end of the semester, as well as two presentations: one on a particular ethnic group, and then another on a chosen research topic.

Since there were only these few assignments, most reviewers felt that more grades, evenly distributed throughout the semester, would have been nice. Other than that, they were pleased with the course and, in particular, with Professor Fruzzetti herself. Additional classes were held during reading period, as students were presenting their research topics.

Students interested in taking this course should be open to discussing sensitive topics, because you are sure to leave the class with some interesting new perspectives.
