Are you fascinated by the microscopic world? Do you wonder what it is that makes you sick? 'Biology of Emerging Microbial Diseases' is a course that focuses on those topics. In this course, students learn about parasites, the diseases that they cause, andthe mechanisms by which they operate. In order to enroll in this course, a background in biology, such as Bio 20, is required, though an understanding of immunology would also be helpful.
Students unanimously applauded Professor Bungiro's organized lectures. Students appreciated the professor for having posted the lecture handouts on the course webpage before class. In addition, students found Professor Bungiro very accessible, sensitive to their needs, willing to answer questions and extremely enthusiastic about the subject. The students also found the Powerpoint presentations that the professor used during lectures very helpful.
Most class members claimed to have put in a good deal of effort for the class. The hours spent by students for the class averaged between 5 to 8 hours per week. Assignments included reading 50 to 100 pages of articles a week along with 2 midterms, one final, and weekly quizzes.
