"Latinos and Film" is a seminar course that explores issues relating to the portrayal of Latinos in film. No background is required for this course.

Professor Pacini-Hernandez received strong reviews from this small class. Many students mentioned that they were impressed by her easy yet engaging style, while others praised her for her ability to lead and direct discussions. Some respondents also mentioned that she was articulate and approachable, and some also noted that her use of media in class was helpful.

The workload for this course consisted of weekly reading assignments and film screenings, as well as three short papers and one long final research paper. Some students mentioned that the readings were not always necessary, while others believed that the final paper was too demanding. However, the class seemed to be satisfied with the assignments in general.

Some students devoted a great deal of effort to this course, while some reported putting forth little effort. For the students who enjoyed the course, they were motivated primarily by an interest in the issues and the ability to screen the films as part of the class. Respondents reported having many opportunities to participate in class, and the majority of the class spent between four and six hours per week on this course.

Although the subject of this course may appear narrow, those with an interest in the material should find this course extremely valuable. Those without a strong interest may be disappointed, although students who enjoy a small class with considerable discussion may also find this course worthwhile.
