"Plant Physiology" is an opportunity to learn about plant structure, composition, and function in detail. A course or two on plant or cell biology above BI 20 may be helpful. However, even though this is a 100 level course, a background in introductory biology and chemistry should be enough.

Students liked Professor Beale. His lectures were clear and thorough. He was very enthusiastic, jovial, and was always willing to entertain questions. His relaxed and friendly demeanor made the course very enjoyable for everyone.

A total of three to six hours of work were needed every week for this class. Most students worked hard and were self-motivated because of interest in the material. Students who did not have a strong interest found it difficult to keep up. Usually there was a chapter of reading assigned per class period. There were 3 exams, a final, and 8 lab reports. Generally, students did not feel the exams were very difficult.

Students encouraged everyone interested in plants to not be intimidated by the course number. Plant lovers unanimously enjoyed it, and everyone learned a great deal and built a strong foundation for future botany studies.
