"Ancient Egyptian Literature" offers a window into the life and society of ancient Egyptians. Knowledge of Egyptian History would be helpful but not necessary for the class.

Students were very impressed with Professor Lesko"s vast knowledge of the subject matter. The informal class setting was seen as allowing much class participation, and quite a few people remarked about the professor"s openness and adaptability. However, some students complained of his tendency to go off on tangents.

Reading assignments were given for each lecture. Students spent about 5 hours on them a week. Two papers, a midterm, and a final were also required. The tests were noted to concentrate more on history than literature. Reading period was observed.

Most surveyed said they learned a great deal about Ancient Egypt and enjoyed the class. If you are interested in reading some of the most significant literary documents that survive from Egypt, you should consider shopping this course.
