"The Writings of W.E.B. Du Bois" is a seminar class, but many of the students say that it felt more like a lecture class at times. This class focuses on the life and writings of Du Bois, and the 20th Century African-American experience. There are no prerequisites for this course, but having taken a course or two in African-American history definitely helps.

Professor Campbell was noted as being laid-back and open-minded, and very easy to talk to. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter, and his attitude toward it motivated many of his students. Professor Campbell likes to talk a lot, but he's willing to listen to your point if you have the guts to interrupt every once in awhile; remember, it is a seminar course, so you're expected to try to speak up. A few students also criticized Professor Campbell for being too repetitive when trying to emphasize a point.

Most of the students dedicated at least four hours per week to this course outside of class. The students were expected to read one book a week, and they often found the reading assignments to be long and repetitious. The reading, however, is essential to the class discussions. Two research papers were assigned, the first five to seven pages in length and the second 15 to 20 pages in length. Many of the students grumbled about the papers, but they felt that the class was worth the effort.

Generally, the respondents liked "The Writings of W.E.B. Du Bois," but they warn that you should only take this course if you are explicitly interested in Du Bois and African-American History, because this course is quite specialized. If you don't like Du Bois, then you're not going to like this course, as you might expect. If you're at all interested in this subject matter, however, Professor Campbell's lectures will keep you motivated.
