Students in "Introduction to Public Health" find that previous enrollment in BC 31 aids them in this course, even though no prerequisites exist for this class. This introductory class seeks to provide its enrollees with a greater understanding of the United States public health system, including its structure, goals, and difficulties.

The course intends to differentiate the field of public health and the field of medicine in the minds of its students. The respondents appreciated the enthusiasm of the instructor for the material. The visual learners of the class benefited from the clear, thorough overhead slides used by the instructor during her lectures. However, the majority of the class felt Melissa Clark discussed the content of the slides too rapidly for them to take notes and to keep up with the lecture. The instructor later remedied the situation by placing the lecture slides and notes on the Internet. On average, the reviewers devoted three to eight hours per week outside of class to this course.

The workload consisted of reading from two textbooks, two exams, one project, one paper, and weekly writing exercises. The majority of respondents spent a moderate amount of effort on the curriculum, since the material motivated them to study it. One exception to this enjoyment was the numerous reading assignments, which consumed a great deal of the students' time, and were often dry and dull. Although students suggested that the instructor increase the creativity of the homework assignments, overall, they found the material to be interesting and well-chosen. The majority of the material studied in the course applied to the real world and current situations. The instructor provided students with many opportunities for participation, including moments during her lectures. She did not observe Reading Period, as one class met during that time.

Respondents truly enjoyed this class, especially the intervention project assigned by the instructor. They warn potential enrollees to pre-register for this course, as it has a limited enrollment.
