This course is the second semester of the beginning Greek sequence. Greek 10 is a prerequisite. Greek language is the main focus of the course, though some culture, history, and geography of Greece were also covered.
Professor Petrofsky was considered very approachable and encouraging. One student wrote that "he was excited, funny, helpful, and brought BAGELS on quiz days!" This in turn made students excited. He was good at explaining the finer points of Greek grammar, and was always willing to find comprehensive explanations for any question.
Students appreciated the fact that the course provided online practice drills, which they found very helpful. There were weekly quizzes (hence the bagels), three exams, which were considered difficult, and a final. The class was small and tightly-knit, since the students had been together since Greek 10. The course required a large time commitment, with most students spending about eight hours per week preparing outside of class.
Overall, students were glad they'd taken the course. Professor Petrofsky was fun and effective, and those students who put forth the required effort felt that they'd learned a huge amount. At the end of the year, they felt ready to say "I know Greek!"
Don't take this course for fun; take it in order to learn a language, and realize that this requires a large amount of effort and commitment. At the same time, though, class with Professor Petrofsky can be fun and enjoyable. And nutritious.
