"Information Theory" taught by Professor Kontoyiannis is an introduction to several aspects of information theory, particularly understanding it and its applications. To take this course, students indicated that one must have a strong background in probability theory. Some also felt that other math skills would be helpful as well.

The professor was considered by most to be an excellent lecturer. Students really appreciated his frequent stopping to take questions. One student did complain, however, that the lectures didn't always explicitly relate to the homeworks. Overall, students were very happy with Professor Kontoyiannis, though.

The textbook was considered to be a valuable resource when used as a supplement to the lectures. The coursework consisted of weekly homework, a midterm, and a take-home final. Survey respondents felt that the homeworks were very good, although at times they could be somewhat time-consuming for several students. Respondents also commented that the exams were pretty good. They covered the topics gone over in class.

Overall, students generally got what they expected from this class, spending anywhere from three to twelve hours per week on class work. Most spent in the middle of that range. This class comes recommended by all, for reasons ranging from the fact that it's fun, to its great professor.
