If you have ever been curious about Southeast Asia then "Peoples and Culture of Southeast Asia" might be the course for you. This course seeks to provide a broad overview of the history, religion and culture of that area of the world. There were no prerequisites or requirements for the class.
Students greatly appreciated the professor's ability to listen to what they had to say. She was a good lecturer, she promoted discussion, she directed discussion well with questions and selected great readings. She also made a good effort to get to know everyone in the class. Survey respondents also really liked the guest speakers she got. The one complaint was that she sometimes read notes to the class, but that was overshadowed by her understanding nature.
All the readings for this class were useful. The reading load was fairly heavy, though the students really liked what they were reading so it was not undoable. Class members had to complete three short papers, some responses, a presentation and a final 15-20 page paper. All the assignments were good.
In general, students spent four to five hours on the course a week. Survey respondents said to definitely take the class if you have any interest in Southeast Asia. It was small and discussion based, and was a very positive learning experience. Do not take it S/NC though, because if you do the work, it is very hard to perform poorly.
