"Native Americans and the United States Criminal Justice System" sticks closely to its title - it examines Native Americans in the United States legal system and government policies that affect them. No prerequisites are necessary, save a desire to learn about criminal law and federal Native American policy.

Professor Love was praised for his wealth of knowledge on the subject. Reviewers described him as laid-back and good at leading discussions. They said he was sensitive to their level of understanding in class and to their workloads outside of class; he discouraged students from doing projects that they did not feel strongly about. Respondents noted that he chose stimulating, thought-provoking readings, although they said that in-class analysis wasn't always on the same level.

The course required a large amount of reading for each class period, but many felt that the readings were interesting enough to be very worthwhile. Students were required to bring discussion questions from the readings to class, and also completed a large take-home midterm, a final presentation, and a final paper. Most said that the work was appropriate and sufficient, in that it was useful but not too time-consuming.

Overall, respondents said they were quite happy with the class. They had a genuine interested in Native American affairs and were rewarded with a great deal of knowledge on the subject. Most reported spending three to five hours per week on the readings, with a few spending a couple hours more.

If you are interested in the American legal system or Native American culture, consider taking this course. A good professor and interesting readings ensure that you won't be disappointed.
