'Holocaust in American Literature and Culture' addresses the representation, remembrance and interpretation of Holocaust in America. It discovers Holocaust in American life through novels, poetry, art, theatre, film, museum, and various other devices of cultural promulgation. Although there are no prerequisites for the course, some students indicate that a general background on holocaust events might be useful.

In general, students thought that Professor Wiedemann, or Susanne as they called her, was an excellent facilitator of discussion and an effective lecturer. Some survey takers said that she was very organized and thorough. Other words used by respondents to describe her include 'positive', 'flexible' and 'passionate'. Moreover, participants appreciated the incredible topics used for discussions, which were extremely thought provoking according to most. A few noted that she was available and made conscious effort to get to know each of her students.

Each student led one discussion on a topic of personal interest. There were two five to seven page papers and a twelve-page research paper. Students loved the readings and particularly praised the books written by Novic and Katz. Quite a few students had high opinion on 'Maus I and Maus II', too. They thought that the readings were very pertinent and that they were a good foundation for discussion. Most importantly, class members liked readings that addressed controversial issues, which challenged students' thoughts.

On average, survey correspondents spent six to eight hours a week on reading, which was very reasonable. They like the course because topics being covered were so diverse. The wide selection of media (memorials, poetry, theatre, etc...) further enhanced the intrigue of the course. Participants recommended fellow students to take the course, especially if Professor Wiedemann is teaching it. Also, pray hard for a small class!
