“Intermediate Arabic” is the first part of a two-semester course aimed at further improving students’ comprehension and understanding of Modern Standard Arabic. In addition to Modern Standard Arabic, the class seeks to introduce to the student a basic knowledge of Classical Arabic and Colloquial Arabic. To enter the class, you must have taken Arabic 10 and 20 or have an equivalent level of proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic.
Professor Christoff earned a wide round of praise from her students for a variety of reasons. While some respected the professor’s effective lecture style, others relished the good discussions that she initiated and her willingness to take time to discuss cultural issues with them. Reviewers noted Professor Christoff’s attentiveness to student needs and her clear explanations on grammar usage. Everyone agreed that Professor Christoff was sincere in her efforts to make sure that the class was following along, always answering student questions and explaining concepts carefully.
The main text for the course, “Al-Kitaab”, was generally thought to be interesting and informative. Students also read short stories, poetry, and essays throughout the semester. The course required daily homework, an oral performance and presentation, and three quizzes. Some students recommended incorporating more quizzes into the class to help them keep up with their work.
Respondents spent around four to five hours per week doing work outside of class. Students wholeheartedly urged prospective Arabic 30 students not to hesitate in enrolling in the class. If you’re looking for an interesting and challenging language class taught by an excellent teacher, then AB 30 might be the class for you.
