"Methods of Applied Mathematics II" is a continuation of a yearlong sequence for prospective majors in Applied Math as well as for those in other majors such as Engineering. It extends the knowledge of differential equations taught in Applied Math 33 to more complex problems such as partial differential equations and Fourier series. The prerequisite for this course is Applied Math 33, which reviewers said was necessary. Additionally, knowledge of linear algebra is helpful but not required.

The instructor, Professor Dobrushkin, was very well received by his students. They remarked that he was easy-going about the pacing and structure of the course, enough so that he let the class decide for itself the policies for grading, due dates, and the type of exams. Students said that he was extremely patient. Respondents noted that his accent caused for an occasional language barrier, but that this was not a major hindrance. Altogether, he was regarded as a kind, caring teacher by the students in the course.

There were two midterms and one final for this class. The instructor was very open about the weekly problem sets he assigned. So long as they were turned in during some reasonable time period, they received credit. Opinion on the book was mixed. Some felt that it complemented the lectures very well, and others thought that it was unnecessary. There were no assigned readings.

The typical student spent an average of five hours per week on the course, which was approximately at the level of work they had expected before they enrolled. The majority of reviewers were quite happy that they took this class, and even happier that they took it with Professor Dobrushkin. However, some felt that as a whole, the course was a little on the easy side. They pointed out that for potential Applied Math majors, the Applied Math 35-36 sequence should be considered as well.
