The main objective of this senior seminar course is to investigate how social inequality affects community health. It is an intensive course designed for seniors who are concentrators in this field. Students who are not concentrators but are interested in the course are also encouraged - but don't forget to get written permission!

Professor Zierler got rave reviews from all students. They liked her for her compassion, care, intelligence and support. Students were impressed by the professor as she cared a lot for her students and monitored their development very effectively. They also appreciated her making the class environment open, comfortable and friendly. She stressed the need to foster a safe, compassionate, learning environment. No one had any doubts about her abilities to follow students' learning needs and interests. "She is amazing and super understanding," said many of them.

All respondents liked the assigned readings and thought that they were very helpful. They seemed to have found the textbooks very relevant to lectures as well as to issues in the field. They were required to submit three papers and a few presentations - all of which were appreciated by the class members.

Students spent an average of four hours outside class for this course each week. They had to work more for papers and presentations but, nevertheless, to describe them as "enjoyable hours". Many students recommended this class because of the wonderful professor and the quality of the overall learning experience. Some of them even mentioned that it was their best class at Brown in three and a half years!
