The mission of the 1999 East Coast Asian Student Union Conference is to explore the idea of a pan-ethnic Asian Pacific American (APA) identity toward the goal of concretely defining an APA community. In an effort to further coordinate our community, this conference will create a space for effective, honest, action-oriented dialogue on topics that are necessary to the development of a pan-APA movement. These discussions will cultivate concrete means of exploring common interests and developing common goals. It is the hope of the 1999 ECASU Steering Committee that this conference will add momentum to the pan-APA movement by engaging, mobilizing, and challenging our generation of APAs.

Our objectives are:

to discuss the issues that make mobilizing a pan-ethnic movement necessary

to engage in issues of inclusion and exclusion in defining an APA community

to learn ways in which we can each contribute to creating an APA national presence through our own passions and career interests.
