Filipino Alliance Constitution

I. Purpose
The purpose the of the Filipino Alliance is to maintain and promote the awareness of Filipino culture and heritage at Brown University. The Filipino Alliance will actively work through activities foster a sense of ethnic pride and comraderie within the Filipino community, while recognizing and addressing the diversity of experiences. Furthermore, Filipino Alliance is dedicated to supporting other Third World communities and working with other groups to promote Third World unity.

II. Membership
Membership to the Filipino Alliance at Brown is open to all members, full-time undergraduates at Brown University and does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, religion, status as a veteran, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin. The majority of membership consists of full-time undergraduate Brown students.

V. Finances
All expenses of the Filipino Alliance shall be paid through the Office of Student Activities and all funds collected by the group from any sources shall be deposited with the Office Of Student Activities. Filipino Alliance agrees to follow all rules regarding financial transactions as set forth by the Office of Student Activities. If the organization becomes inactive for a period of three years, any funds left in the treasury of the Office of Student Activities.

VI. Amendment Procedure
An amendment shall be brought before the group by a majority vote. The Co-Chairpersons shall notify all current members of the group that an amendment to the group's constitution is to be consideblue. The amendment will then be consideblue at the meeting following its announcement to the group. To be accepted, an amendment must gain gain support from two-thirds of the group membership. Once an amendment has been accepted by the Filipino Alliance, it shall be given to the UCS at least two full days before the next regualrly scheduled council meeting. A representative from the group shall attend this meeting to present the amendment for UCS approval. Upon receipt of a simple majority from UCS, the amendment shall be considered a formal part of the Constitution of the Filipino Alliance.

Co-Chairs (2)

Open to: Sophomore, Junior, Senior

NOTE: Each Co-Chair will be “active” for one semester and “supporting” for the other semester. The active Co-Chair for the fall semester will also serve as a signatory for the year.

Active

  • Work with the supporting Co-Chair to develop the semester’s goals with respect to the mission statement
  • Schedule and facilitate e-board and GB meetings
  • Represent the organization at the Pan-Asian Leadership Council meetings
  • Delegate tasks to e-board members as needed
  • Serve as the primary contact to other student organizations and outside organizations including D1
  • Serve as the primary contact to e-board members
  • Oversee the planning and organization of club activities for the semester
  • Work with the Finance Chair to prepare the following year’s budget

Supporting

  • Work with the active Co-Chair to develop the semester’s goals with respect to the mission statement
  • Attend PALC meetings when active Co-Chair cannot
  • Provide input and feedback for events
  • Work with the Finance Chair to prepare the following year’s budget
  • Serve as the primary contact for FA alumni and graduate students
  • Update alumni on semester’s activities

 

Finance Chairs (2)

Open to: All Classes (one Finance Chair will serve as mentor)

Key Events: UFB Representative Meetings

  • Regulate line item transfers and make budgetary appeals if necessary
  • Work with the Co-Chairs to develop the following year’s budget
  • Approve all financial transactions concerning the budget and serve as a signatory
  • Obtain purchase orders when needed
  • Meet with the UFB Representative to discuss budget matters

 

Cultural Chair

Open to: All Classes

Key Events: Filipino-American Heritage Month, FAHM Social, FIND Dialogue/Conference, Asian-American History Month

  • Oversee planning and logistics of FAHM Social
  • Coordinate at least 2 campus-wide activities during AAHM that promote awareness of Philippine culture and/or Filipino-American issues
  • Invite speakers to campus and coordinate their visits
  • Attend PALC meetings and FIND Dialogue/Conference

 

Community Chair

Open to: Former E-Board Members

Key Events: FAHM Social, FIND Dialogue/Conference, Relay for Life

  • Assist Cultural Chair with planning of FAHM Social
  • Serve as primary contact to outside volunteer organizations
  • Coordinate at least 1 community outreach activity each semester
  • Publicize pertinent and current Filipino-American issues to listserv
  • Attend FIND Dialogue/Conference
  • Coordinate Relay for Life and attend captain meetings
  • Serve as the primary contact for all nonprofit events

 

Fundraising Chair

Open to: All Classes

Key Event: Night Market

  • Coordinate fundraisers for charities or for the club
  • Oversee planning and logistics for Night Market

 

Records Chair

Open to: All Classes

Key Events: Fall, Mid-Year, ADOCH, and TWW Activities Fairs

  • Reserve rooms for e-board and GB meetings
  • Take notes at e-board and GB meetings
  • Forward meeting summaries to e-board members and listserv
  • Serve as the primary owner of the FA listserv
  • Regulate and approve listserv communications
  • Keep activities fair materials (table decorations, sign-up lists, etc.)
  • Maintain FA archives (documents, pictures, etc.)

 

Social Chair

Open to: Sophomore, Junior, Senior

Key Events: FA Mixer, Vermonster, End-of-Semester Social, Rice Bowl

  • Coordinate and publicize social activities
  • Schedule informal activities (FA-mily dinners, study jams, etc.)

 

Dance Coordinator

Open to: Anyone who performed at Legends or Asian Arts Fest

Key Events: Legends, Asian Arts Fest, TWW

  • Schedule and facilitate dance practices
  • Reserve practice rooms at the Student Activities Office well in advance of event
  • Choreograph or find choreographers for traditional and modern pieces
  • Serve as the primary contact and authority for additional performances
  • Be responsible for the safe storage of dance equipment, props, etc.

 

Webmaster

Open to: All Classes

  • Update and maintain website regularly
  • Assist Records Chair in archiving FA material (photos, documents, etc.)
