The Graduate Student Council (GSC) is the official political and social body for over 1,700 graduate students here at Brown University. Our primary aims are to foster a sense of community among graduate students across departments and to offer a voice for that community within the University and the Providence area.

Grad/Med Spring Ball will be in Andrews Hall 10pm-2am on Saturday, 3 May. Dress to impress!

Next GSC Social will be in the Grad Lounge 8-10pm on Friday, 25 April. Come show your departmental pride!

Hiking! Our social officers are planning another awesome event: a hiking trip in Purgatory Chasm on 30 March, rain or shine. The bus leaves from the OMAC at 10am, returns at 3pm, and costs $5. RSVP to Jesse by the 25th.

Ice Skating! The GSC is planning an ice skating outing to Kennedy Plaza downtown on 6 March. Meet at 6:30pm at Faunce Arch to walk downtown, or catch a RIPTA or RISD shuttle to join us there at 7. Skating is free with your Brown ID, but if you don't have your own skates you'll have to rent for $3. Click the flyer for a high-resolution PDF.

Contacting Your Dean: The graduate school deans are here to address our concerns, but tracking them down can be tough. We'll have detailed information about that online soon, but for now check out the Graduate School governance page.

Salsa and Swing Classes: The GSC is proud to bring back Swing and Salsa classes again this semester. Classes will be held at the Graduate Lounge Tuesday and Wednesday of each week. On Tuesdays, Beginner Salsa is 7:30-8:45pm, and Beginner Swing is 8:45-10pm. On Thursdays, Intermediate Salsa is 7-9pm. These classes are open for free to every Brown University Graduate Student. No experience and partner necessary. For more info contact mavachon at brown dot edu.

Grad Student Wiki is back and running. Due to a recent hack, to view the wiki you will need your brown email ID and password (make sure your browser allows pop-up windows). If you have any questions feel free to contact any of the GSC wiki administrators. The GSC Wiki is a place to : share information with the Graduate Student Community about restaurants, landlords, legal advice, bars, dentists, etc..

New Childbirth Accommodation and Family Leave: The Graduate School at Brown University has established two new policies related to birth and family care.
