Minutes of October meeting were approved unanimously.

  1. Reports and Announcements

    1. Announcement regarding the GSC elections- The elections will be held in December. Nominations so far:

Ki-o Kim - Physics: Admin VP
Sarah Dawson - Old World Archaeology and Art: Social VP
Matt Hirsch - Physics: Treasurer
Guillaume Marceau - CS: Tech Officer

    1. Student activities advisory board needs one representative. Diane Gorman was elected to serve on the board.

    2. Campus life advisory board needs one representative. No nomination was received for the post.

    3. Departmental Rebate Update: Only two departments have submitted the rebates form. The GSC treasurer strongly encouraged all the departments to submit the rebate forms as soon as possible.

    4. Social Update: Wine social will be held on November 12th and a beer social in the following week.

    5. Additional Announcements:

-RIPTA passes are available at the library and they are 50% off for Brown Students.

-A search committee has been formed to look for a new director for athletics position. Bethany Bradley is the graduate student representative on the committee.

    1. A write up on the Graduate teaching committee will be available on the GS website.

    2. GSC funding policy discussion: The President initiated a discussion on the GSC's funding policy. Currently the policy is to fund half of the event upto a total of 400 dollars.

3. Miscellaneous

  1. Colonel Verrecchia of the department of public safety informed the graduate student council about the changes taking place in the policing policy. The campus is being divided into North and South zones and there will be a Lieutenant in charge of each zone. Officers will make regular appearances at the GSC meetings from now. Also, the officers will start eating with the students on the campus. To access the program there is a mini survey available on the web page of the public safety department. Colonel Verrechhia also informed that no specific dates have been set for the Brown Police to get armed.

  2. Grad Forum Update: Grad Forum got a seed money of $1500 from the office of campus life and student services. The presenters will come back to the GSC with a scaled and more detailed plan at a later date.

A motion for meeting to be adjourned was passed. The next meeting will be held on December 1st, 2004 (7pm @GSL).
