Home Away From Home
Kappa Alpha Theta exists as a supportive foundation for college women, designed to facilitate personal, academic, and social growth and success through the college years and beyond. These successes occur, in part, because of the sisterhood that Kappa Alpha Theta provides to each member. Our sisterhood takes many forms, ranging from nights out with other sisters, to studying and exercising together, to sharing clothes, advice, and personal thoughts. For every woman, sisterhood means something unique and special, and Kappa Alpha Theta provides the network in which she can search for -- and find -- the sisterhood for which she is looking. Each of our members truly feels privileged to be a part of something so meaningful, and each enjoys the enriching experience of being a Theta.
Who We Are
The sisters of Kappa Alpha Theta come together to form a diverse group of women leaders at Brown. We are Varsity; Meiklejohn advisers; PLMEs; OSL counselors and coordinators; WiSE coordinators; Fusion dancers; Out of Bounds performers; Lecture Board Co-Chairs; Greek Council presidents and leaders; OWC coordinators and volunteers; Bruin Club executive board members and volunteers; WBRU personalities; TWC organizers; Hillel leaders; Herald editors and contributors; a capella singers; Key Society members; and more. Academically, Thetas can be found in virtually every program of study, and we consistently receive scholastic honors and awards, graduating with high GPAs, honors, and theses. The wide range of interests and personalities in our organization creates the diversity that is Theta at Brown.
Community Service
Community service is a very important aspect of life to the Sisters of Kappa Alpha Theta. Our national philanthropy is CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), an organization that trains community volunteers to speak up for abused and neglected children in court, helping the judges to make informed decisions. We do our best to volunteer for the CASA chapter in Providence.
In addition to CASA, we raised over $2000 for breast cancer research during Women's History Month in October, we collected $250 and over 50 cans during our annual Thanksgiving food drive with the Brothers of Phi Kappa Psi, , and we volunteered at Brown blood drives with the Brothers of Alpha Epsilon Pi, for which we were recently recognized by Governor Almond and the Rhode Island Blood Center for helping Brown have the most successful blood drives in the state.

Social Events
We have held numerous social activities including the "Thursdays with Theta" weekly screenings of Sex and the City and Grey's Anatomy, the Dessert Party, studybreaks. We always enjoy going out or staying in, watching movies or enjoying all the social life Brown has to offer. We have excellent relations with the other Greek houses, and frequently attend their events, formals, as well as barbecues, tailgates, and other social events. Aside from all-campus activities, we also provide many sisterhood events. We have dinners on the town at the start of each semester, as well as off-campus semi formals. Beautiful Providence days call for walks with your sisters or games of ping-pong on the Theta porch, and low-key nights are the perfect time for a girls’ night out to the movies, or relaxation in the lounge by the fire. As a house, we participate in intramural sports, and informal meals at the Ratty. Weekly Theta newsletters keep us closely connected to each other.
Theta at Brown
As the first Greek society for women, Kappa Alpha Theta now has 123 chapters across the U.S. and Canada, with over 170,000 members. Our philanthropic Foundation gave over 1 million dollars in grants during the past year, and more than $500,000 went to Theta alumnae and undergraduates, one of the largest scholarship distributions of any Greek organization! As Thetas, we enjoy both formal and informal links to other Thetas and organizations all over the world. Our alumnae network is there to help you find the careers, internships, and positions that are right for you! We are proud of our deep traditions and our famous alumnae, such as Nancy Kassebaum, the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate; Kerri Strug, winner of the 1996 gold medal in gymnastics; Joan Cooney, the creator of Sesame Street; and Dian Fossey, a pioneer zoologist.
