sisterhood

Kappa Alpha Theta exists as a supportive foundation for college women, designed to facilitate personal, academic, and social success through the college years and beyond. These successes occur, in part, because of the sisterhood that Kappa Alpha Theta provides to each member.

This sisterhood takes many forms, ranging from dinners, shows, and nights out with other sisters, to studying, exercising, or going out for ice cream, to sharing clothes, advice, and personal thoughts. For every woman, sisterhood means something unique and special, and Kappa Alpha Theta provides the network in which she can search for -- and find -- the sisterhood for which she is looking. Each of the members truly feel privileged to be a part of something so meaningful, and each enjoys the enriching experience of being a Theta.

Kappa Alpha Theta forbids any hazing or mock initiations of any kind. Kappa Alpha Theta expects each member to refrain from hazing others and to refuse to be hazed herself.

Kappa Alpha expects each member to achieve high scholarship and to develop to the fullest of her intellectual, cultural, and social potential. Each chapter is required to set a definite scholarship average which members must maintain in order to retain the social privileges of active membership. In addition, each chapter is expected to maintain an average above the all-sorority average on its campus, and chapter bylaws shall establish specific grade requirements for officers.

Kappa Alpha Theta expects each member to conduct herself in a manner that will lead to positive self-esteem for herself and others at all times.

Kappa Alpha Theta welcomes as members, in accordance with the laws of the Fraternity, college women who are of good moral character and socially congenial, without regard to race, religion, national origin, age, or handicap. There is nothing in the laws or policies which is discriminatory against the aforementioned categories.

Kappa Alpha Theta believes that the dignity of the individual is a basic element of a civilized society and that dignity comes from a feeling of self-respect as well as a respect for all people.

Kappa Alpha Theta fosters goals and programs which are consistent with the missions and purposes of the host institutions. Programs are designed to stimulate personal growth, responsible deportment, academic excellence, good citizenship, self-respect, concern for others, and loyalty to alma mater.
