LASO will be holding its next meeting on Monday, September 22, 2008 at 8:00 pm in J. Walter Wilson Room 402. Try to your best to attend! Meeting minutes will be e-mailed out by the LASO secretary after the meeting if you happen to miss it and want to know what was discussed.PROVIDENCE LATIN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL 2008
Now in its 16th year, the Providence Latin American Film Festival (PLAFF) is proud to present something for everyone during this year's event - comedies, dramas, documentaries, shorts, animation. Screenings will take place from September 24-28, 2008 at the Rhode Island School of Design Auditorium, the Columbus Theater, and at MacMillan Hall at Brown University. INCOMING FRESHMEN! Want to know more about LASO? Check us out at the Brown Activities Fair on Thursday, September 4th from 7-10 PM in the Olney-Margolius Athletic Center (OMAC). First-years ONLY will be invited starting at 7 PM; returning students will be invited to attend starting at 8 PM.FIRST-YEAR SOCIAL: "BIENVENIDOS A LA FAMILIA"
The Brown Latin American Student Organization is hosting a meet and greet dinner for incoming freshman. Come meet your fellow freshman and enjoy FREE hot dogs, burgers, and chips. We welcome students of all cultures, not only Latino-identifying. After working up your appetite at Unit Wars, come join us at the Brown Hillel (80 Brown Street) on Sunday, September 7th from 5-8 PM. August 23, 2008: Get Ready for the Fall!
In preparation for what will be an amazing year, the LASO website has been slightly redesigned to give it a cleaner, more professional look. Take a look around the site for new features, including a spanking new Photos section and a Forum where LASO members can have great discussions, share ideas, and point others to resources and opportunities.
The LASO E-Board is very excited to welcome back its members and open its doors to all incoming freshman! Stay tuned for more information about our first meeting, which will be held on Monday, September 15th at 8PM! Location to be announced soon.

April 2, 2008: Announcements and Updates
LATINO HISTORY MONTH
April 2008 is Latino History Month at Brown! Jennifer Gomez, the programmer, along with the Latino History Month steering committee, have put together an amazing month that includes all kinds of different and fun events such as art exhibitions, outdoor concert by YERBABUENA, off-Broadway performances by Platanos & Collard Greens and Teatro Luna, tons of def jam poets, renowned speakers, and a whole lot of food and dancing!They would like to invite all of you to come and participate in these events! This Latino History Month will be unforgettable because they have worked with many departments (Watson Institute, Africana studies, Hispanic Studies, Ethnic Studies etc), organizations, and cultural programs (Black History Series, Caribbean Heritage Week, Semana Chicana, Puerto Rican Heritage Week, Pride Month and Multiracial Week) to put together a wonderful month for everyone to enjoy. With more than 20 events, they hope that you will be able to make it to at least half. Most events are free and open to the public.
