About Us
The mission of the Brown University Lecture Board is to provide the university community with speakers who are thought provoking and provide insight that complement the academic, extra-curricular and developmental elements of the Brown experience. In short, we bring people to speak at Brown that we feel students will be interested in. We choose who to bring and subsequently organize and coordinate bringing that person to campus to give a lecture. As a service to other groups on campus, we also provide co-sponsorship funds as well as logistical support when appropriate. Past guests have included: Salman Rushdie, Oliver Stone, Ralph Nader, Joseph Heller, David Mamet, Spike Lee, Ben Stein, Naomi Wolf, Anderson Cooper, Ehud Barak, Wesley Clark, Rick Santorum, and John Krasinski.
Each member of Lecture Board plays an integral part in the process of bringing a speaker to Brown, and benefits from their involvement in a number of ways:
- Each member has a direct say in who we bring to campus to speak
- Each member gets to sit in the front row at the lecture
- Following the lecture, members get to attend a private reception with the speaker.
For the 2007-2008 school year, we will typically meet on Mondays at 8pm in Wilson 301.
