Evidence: Student Letters
Description of Artifact:These letters are responses students wrote during the first week of class to a letter I wrote to them on the first day of class. In my letter to students, I explained to them who I was and why I was excited to teach the Paralegal class. I told students what to expect from the class and what I expected from them. I asked students to respond by explaining to me who they were, what their families were like, what they wanted to learn in this class, and also a response to what they learned already this week about James Chaney, Michael Schwerner, and Andrew Goodman (the unit about Justice we were learning that week) . Standards demonstrated by this artifact:Student as Learner Reflection:Opening the class with a personalized letter showed students that I was willing to bring my personal experiences to the classroom. It demonstrated to them the example I wanted them to follow of being able to bring what they already knew to our classroom environment. The letters allowed me to learn a significant amount about the students - who did not speak English at home, who had a supportive family, what students were interested in, what they wanted to learn in the class and also how well they write and edit their writing. The first two letters are second drafts, while the third one is a first draft. |
