Evidence: Academic Voice Instructional Unit Plan

Description of Artifact:
This unit plan consists of lesson plans, goals, assessments, and a calendar for one unit I taught in the Paralegal Studies course. This unit was on writing a professional essay in academic voice. It taught students how to improve their writing by following coventional writing guidelines.

Standard demonstrated by this artifact:
Planning

Reflection:
Teaching students about academic voice or code switching was a good way to give students specific guidelines for improving their writing. Through planning this unit in advance, I was able to incorporate many different methods for approaching this hard subject. As a result of the significant time and effort I put into teaching writing to students, I noticed that their writing did improve from their first essays to the final essays they completed in the classes. Students began to write in a more professional voice and had a better idea about why conventional writing is necessary for certain purposes.
