Description of Artifact:
This lesson plan from July 21 st details a lesson I taught on historical context. In class, we focused on connecting past events to current media bias. We used a graphic organizer that was in the shape of a tree in order to help students understand the connection. The roots represented the historical 'roots' or events, the tree top represented current media bias and the trunk represented the connections between the two. I taught this lesson by modeling it for students with analyzing the issue over displaying the 10 commandments in public buildings.

Standard demonstrated by this artifact:
Planning

Reflection:
This lesson plan shows how I scripted questions to ensure students would understand what it means to consider the historical context of an issue. In addition to the plan, I also made a model of the graphic organizer the groups would fill out later which I displayed on the overhead. Unfortunately, I could not include the notes I used for the context tree in this portfolio because I wrote them out on a transparency. Because I planned all of the questions and the model out ahead of time, I was able to get students to understand the meaning and the point of analyzing historical context when evaluating a source.
