Evidence: Classroom Set-up
Description of the artifact:These three pictures show the tools I used in the classroom to make the environment more student centered and allow students greater control over their work. The word list was used to display each word we defined as a class. After the word was in front of the whole class, we used construction paper to write the definition on the wall. Students could refer to this list at any point to help them remember the legal terms we defined. The make-up work drawer consisted of a folder with the hand-outs for each day and a list of the homework assignments. Students could find out for themselves what homework they missed when they were not at school and could get extra copies of any handouts they misplaced. After student requests, I used the board on the side of the room to write down teh homework every night and to display the week's extra credit assignment. Standards demonstrated by this artifact:Classroom Practice Reflections on artifact:Setting the classroom up in a way that allowed students more control made it easier for me as a teacher to hold students accountable. The homework board provided a routine for students of writing down their homework when they entered the classroom and did result in an improvement in the amount of homework students turned in. The make-up work drawer made it easier for me to keep up with all of the hand-outs I passed out and to give students access to the work they missed without having to stay after school. The word list showed students the words they learned and I made an effort to use those words more often in my teaching to ensure that the students would use them as well.
