Evidence: First Term Inventory
Description of Artifact:The First Term Inventory is a graphic organizer I created to communicate first term grades to students. In the inventory, students used their grading summaries (see artifact 4) to understand what parts of their grade needed the most improvement for the next term. Students also evaluated themselves on skills they learned during first semester and mastery of the content we discussed in each unit. Standard the Artifact Addresses:Assessment Reflection:The inventory allowed students to see exactly what they needed to improve to earn a higher grade and it also showed them what they were doing well. By using this self evaluation process, students documented goals for themselves and gave me the opportunity to record and respond to their goals. After completing the inventory, students received a response from me (see artifact 3) explaining their grade for the term and offering advice for how to accomplish their goals. This inventory represented the first step in the grade conversation: self-evaluation. By looking through their grades and evaluating themselves, students saw that grades came from work they completed or did not complete, and were not a number simply assigned to them by the teacher.
