Evidence: Student Grading SummaryDescription of Artifact:The grading summary is an assessment tool that became a regular part of grade communication in my classroom. The summary comes from a computer program I used to calculate the grades: mygradebook.com. Every two weeks, I printed out these summaries and students used them to see what assignments they had forgotten to complete or turn in. When I handed the summaries out, students had to circle all of the assignments they were missing and would come after school to receive help figuring out how to complete them. Standards demonstrated by this artifact:Assessment Reflection:Mygradebook.com's grading summaries made keeping track of the grades and attendance very easy and had many tools I could use to communicate these grades to students. I decided to use the summaries every two weeks to give students a regular opportunity to check their grades. I think it made students feel like they had more control over their grade as they could see exactly what they were getting in each of the five categories that their grade came from: classwork, homework, participation, tests/quizzes, and projects/papers. Although the summaries had students a little stressed the first time I handed them out, after they became a regular part of the classroom routine, students began to appreciate and ask for the summaries. Many commented on the final evaluations I gave to the class that they wished more of their teachers would give them progress reports on a regular basis.
