These are easily done, incredibly helpful tasks, so please volunteer if you can!
Our other two events for the week are the MEAL CREDIT DONATIONS and the FAST, both on Thursday, 11/17.
The first is relatively self-explanatory--BUDS allows people to donate one or more of their credits at swiping machines at the side doors of the dining halls. We have a sign-up sheet at the Post Office this week so that we can give BUDS an estimation of the number of anticipated donors. If interested, you can volunteer to stand outside of either dining hall between 4:30 and 7:30 on Thursday, 11/17 to encourage people to donate their meal credits (or money). The money will go to Oxfam's initiatives in South Asia, which was recently hit by one of the world's worst earthquakes. For more information on Oxfam's response to the crisis, go to
http://www.oxfamamerica.org
The second event is Oxfam's Fast for a World Harvest campaign. Since 1974, millions of people across the country have taken part in Oxfam America’s Fast for a World Harvest campaign, giving up one or more meals, or even junk food and cigarettes, and donating the money they would have spent to Oxfam. Also, you can raise money by finding sponsors (friends, relatives, professors) and donating the money they give you. The money raised from this will also go to the earthquake in South Asia. If YOU or someone you know is interested in participating, a pledge form is attached.

to this event.

I'm afraid that yesterday was Oxfam's last meeting of the semester. Sadly, you may not be receiving many e-mails from me for a while.
On the bright side, though, I'm sending an e-newsletter that I received from Oxfam. It has information about what Oxfam is currently doing AND ways you can help. If you'd like to join Oxfam America's "eCommunity," the link is at the end of the e-mail.
Thanks for a great semester!

Oxfam says UN Aid Operation in Pakistan Needs Funding Now

Six weeks after the earthquake killed more than 80,000 people,
the UN response to the disaster is running severely short of
both resources and personnel. Donor governments have committed
to only about one quarter of the $550 million the UN requested.

Nationwide, Thousands Skip a Meal for Oxfam to Raise Awareness
of Poverty and Hunger
On November 17th, thousands of people around the country skipped
a meal, as part of Oxfam's FAST for a World Harvest
http://ga0.org/ct/GdAzzBE1uX9m/ , to draw attention to the more
than 850 million people worldwide who are hungry. We received
hundreds of e-mails from the eCommunity and we thought we'd
share one with you.
"On Nov. 17, I will Skip a Meal while remembering the millions
of brothers and sisters who, on that day and every day, go
hungry. As I think of the wealth of my own family, I will think
of one family among those millions with the hope and the prayer that they will never again know hunger. But the reality is that Nov. 18 is a new day - with new opportunities for me, unfettered by want, and an old day for millions of others, bound by life's circumstances to hunger, sickness, fear, hopelessness. The question then is the same question, every day: how do we put an absolute end to poverty." Mike, Kansas
